PAST 4 SEASONS

In the table below we see Albions end of season position and their season record. Looks like we made huge strides in 2011. Interestingly enough, Albion lost 4 league games all season this season, by the end of November they had lost 3 of these. Meaning 1 defeat from their last 12 games, the kind of form that saw them promoted.

SEASON OVERVIEW

Another season down for the Albion and what a season ’10/’11 has been for the Courcey men. 2nd in the league, promotion to Division 2. Best defence in the league helped by Michael Walsh, Ger O’Connell, Colum Walsh, Declan Murray, Colm O’Donovan & Conor Hurley. A solid midfield line with JP Hayes, Noel Twomey, Conan Dillon, John Hipwell, James O’Driscoll, Jody Mac, Shane Horan & Jason O’Riordan all doing their part for the team. 16 goals in 14 games for John Duggan capped a magnificent season for the Ballinadee man who caused alot of hassle for opposing defences. Not to mention Rob Dalys 10 goals in 13 games and John Hipwell scoring 9 for the season from both midfield and up front. Some promising performances to mention from Darren Daly and 2 appearances from Albion legendary keeper Padraig Harrington.

Highlights came against Leeside (2-0 win away), Cathedral Celtic (3-3 – peno win in Corinthian Cup Rd. 2), Hibs (2-1 win away), UCC (5-0 win home), Innishvilla (4-0 win home) and Cork Road Celtic (2-0 win away from home last day of the season to ensure promotion). 6 clean sheets this season also showed their defensive resolve, 4 of which came in the last 4 games.

Of course there were disappointing moments also, UCC (1-1 draw away), Innishvilla (0-0 away – A draw which in the end cost Albion the league), Carrigtwohill (1-0 away defeat & 3-2 home defeat), St. John Boscos (2-2 draw after being 2-0 up with 8 minutes to go).

Michael Walsh won Player of the Season on votes, though just the 1 vote ahead of Declan Murray. Conan Dillon is Young Player of the year after dominating Albions midfield all season.

A great season all round and pressing ahead to bigger and better times in 2011/2012 in Division 2.

ALBION PROMOTED!!!!!

De Courcey Albion have finished 2nd in Corks AUL Div 3 and are promoted to Div 2 for 2011/2012.

Albion had gone to Fermoy on Saturday needing a win to have any chance of promotion against Cork Road Celtic, who had led the league for most of the season. Albion were 2-0 victors and awaited Leesides result with Parkview, Leeside were 2-0 winners to give them the League title 1 point ahead of De Courcey. Albion then had to await the result of Greenwood Vs St John Boscos, needing Boscos to slip up to ensure promotion. Greenwood ran out 1-0 winners to send Albion up to Division 2 with Leeside for next season.

A fantastic season all round for an ever improving Albion squad who showed ther class at the end of the season with 4 clean sheets.

and for your added convenience we have included last seasons results too.

One must question the voting this time round as Padraig ‘Scratch’ Harrington received no votes despite a 100% clean sheet record this term. A massive drop from 82.5 to zero for the legendary Albion stopper.

Also interesting to note that the top three didn’t play for Albion last term.

Goal of the Season

Goal A

John Hipwell Vs Cork Road. Hipwell, facing away from the goal, turned and volleyed from the edge of the box to put Albion 1 up with an absolute screamer.

Goal B

James O’Driscoll Vs Greenwood. O’Driscoll, aving scored already, doubled his account while running at the goal and keeping his eye on the ball. As it dropped he volleyed in to the bottom corner.

Goal C

John Duggan Vs Innishvilla. Duggan got his 16th of the season with a cracking free kick to put Albion 4-0 up. 25 yards out the swung the ball high, it dipped just under the crossbar straight into the corner of the goal.

Goal D

John Hipwell Vs Innishvilla. Another volley from Hipwell this time with his left to make it 2-0 to Albion.
