ALBION Vs Ballinghassig Preview

Albion go into Sundays crunch division 2 game against local rivals Ballinhassig as slight underdogs given “Hassigs” current league position and their appearance at Turners Cross in the Saxone Cup Final at the end of March. Along their route to the final they beat Albion 2-1 at Gortnaglough in November ’11 in a relatively 1 sided affair. Though after a disappointing performace by Albion on the day they are now more determened to get a result to push them further up the league. Albion still have a last 16 AOH encounter against Premier A side Springfield in the coming weeks and taking 3 points from Ballinhassig this coming sunday would go a long way to buidling their confidence as they look to build on a very decent 2011/2012 season so far. Albion will be missing Ger O’Connell & Jody MacNamara for this tie though the pairing of Duggan & Harrington is set to continue & the return of John Hipwell & Conan Dillon to midfield will boost all concerned. I will go now before i start crying.

Ballinhassig Vs Albion – Sunday morning 19th Feb 10.45am Gortnaglough.

Leeview Game Preview

Albion play their 2nd pre season game on Tuesday 18th July at Eli Lilly with kick off at 7.15pm. The home side will welcome back Declan Murray & Jason O’Riordan and new faces for the game include Martin El-sahen, Eoin O’Mahony, Jack Crosbie, Jonathon Cantolin & Ben Dillon.

They will have some confidence going into the game after a very decent first half performance against a very good Mayfield side on sunday gone. But performances from Conan Dillon, Timmy Harrington, John Hipwell and Michael Walsh were an encouraging sign for the season ahead.

Kick off 7.15pm – All support appreciated.

BIG WEEK IN FIXTURES FOR ALBION

De Courcey Albion face a big week with 3 games in 7 days. We are nearing the end of a very exciting season in Division 3 and 6/7 teams are all still fighting for a place in the promotion spots.

Cork Road Celtic lead the pack on 34pts, Leeside follow in 2nd with 33pts just ahead of Parkview Celtic on goal difference. Albion follow in 4th on 32 pts. St. John Boscos lie in 5th on 30pts with outsiders Hibernians on 26pts and Afton Villa on 25pts. The biggest result lately came when Hibs beat Boscos 4-2 surprisingly to bring themselves back into contention and denied Boscos the chance to go above Albion & Parkview.

Albion face Carrigtwohill this sunday at Eli Lilly at 10.45am. The reverse fixture at the beginning of the season saw Albion go down 1-0 on a hot Autumn evening. Albion will be looking to continue their good league form in 2011 that has seen them fighting for promotion.

Then 2 days later Albion stay in their own Parish but play away against local rivals Innishvilla. The game is on Tuesday coming and kick off is 6.30pm.

The following sunday sees Albion at home again to UCC. The students took a point off Albion a few weeks back when the Albion threw everything at them but couldnt find the winning goal.

Support at all these games is very much appreciated.

SEASON OPENER PREVIEW

Albion open their 2010/2011 season campaign this weekend with a home game against Crossbarry rivals “Parkview Celtic”. Albion will be boosted after an impressive pre-season & a strengthened squad, but will in no way take this game lightly as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the beginning of last season to Parkview.

Albion have held onto the same squad as last season plus have added 7 new players in Conan Dillon, Rob Daly, Eamonn Dempsey, Eoin O’Mahony, Lorcan Gately, Wayne Carroll & the returning John Hipwell – all who have had a very strong pre-season with some great performances on the field.

The Parkview game at Eli Lilly last season ended up in a cracker with Albion 3-0 up, Parkview came back to 3-3 with 2 minutes left until John Duggan scored one of the goals of the season with a stunning free kick from 30 yards in injury time to give Albion all 3 points, for which fact Parkview will surely be out for revenge this time round.

Kick off 10.45am Sunday 22nd – Eli Lilly.
