Strand B 3-2 Albion

A day to forgot for an understrength Albion side who crashed out of the Corinthian Cup to underdogs, Strand United “B”. A dogged first half display from the home team saw them 3-0 up at half time. A woeful first half display from the Albion gifted Strand United with all 3 goals. Jody McNamara, stand in keeper for the day, could do little with all 3 attempts as Albion fell apart 10 mins in.

The second half showed a slight improvement from the Courcey men when Ger O’Connell scored a powerful header from a free kick to make it 3-1 with twenty minutes to go. Noel Twomey, Jason O’Riordan, James O’Driscoll & Colm O’Donovan all had chances to reduce the defecit but Strand were defending in numbers to clear every time. Albion did get a second on 90 mins with 2 mins of injury time to go, with a fantastic finish from James O’Driscoll just at the edge of the box right into the top corner.

A very disappointing display from Albion who will look to improve this thursday when they face Strand United “A” in Div 2.
