Albion opened their season with a good 4-2 home win over a resilient Newmarket side. Albion had a 2-0 lead in the opening 15 mins, the first coming from a fantastic assist from Ger O’Connell. The centre half spotted Timmy free and dunked the ball from his own half over the opposing centre halfs head. Harrington latched onto it and buried the ball to make it 1-0. The second goal came from Rob Daly who chased a loose ball out wide to flick and lob the keeper from a very tight angle. The home side looked in control though Newmarket then fond their feet when a race between their striker and stand in Albion keeper for the day, Martin R, ended up with the ball in the net. Newmarket brought it back to level terms when their centre half found himself free at a corner to make it 2-2.
Jody Mac would replace Martin in goal at half time. His first bit of action was a lovely save from the left to force a corner. Newmarket pressed high to find a winning goal, this was to be their downfall when Dan Gal came free with the ball at a Newmarket attack, he slipped the ball forward for Harrington to race on to make it 3-2 to the hosts. Harrington grabbed his hat trick with a sublime finish from the edge of the 18yard box, at a tight angle, and passed the keeper low and hard. Newmarket changed to 3 at the back in the search for a goal but with Ben Dillon sitting deep in centre mid most of their attacks were broken up before they reached the box.
A great 2nd half display for Albion sees them come away with all 3 points.
