Albion 0-2 Kilreen

Albion crashed out of the Corinthian Cup in the last 16 today against Division 1 table toppers Kilreen. Kilreen looked bright from the off spreading the ball to the wings through the centre though Albion defended well keeping the score at 0-0. With 2 minutes before half time Michael Walsh came out to clear a ball and got to it first before he was taken down. The decision amazingly went the other way and Kilreen were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area which they converted with an excellent finish. Half time 0-1.

The second half started well for Albion as John Hipwell struck the post from a shot and JP Hayes looked like he was starting to cause problems for the defence. From a corner Kilreen scored again after a game of ping pong in the box. Albion still defended well and will feel hard done by with the final score.

Team: Michael Walsh, Martin Ryan (Declan Murray ’70), Conor Hurley, Colum Walsh, Colm O’Donovan, JP Hayes, Noel Twomey, Shane Horan, Conan Dillon, Darren Daly (John Duggan ’55), John Hipwell (Rob Daly ’75).
