In their second pre season friendly De Courcey Albion took on Shipping League Premier Division side Elm Tree United at Eli Lilly. Albion took the lead when Lorcan Gately fired home. Soon after Gately turned provider when he collected the ball at the edge of the box from a corner and crossed in for Rob Daly to head in to the back of the net on his Albion debut to make it 2-0. Elm Tree were then awarded a penalty which they converted to make 2-1 to Albion at half time.
Albion restored their two goal lead when the Elm Tree keeper could only parry a shot from long range into the path of Darren Daly who slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 3-1. Elm Tree made it 3-2 when a shot from long range took a slight deflection but was enough to take it out of reach of Albion keeper Declan Murray. With about 10 minutes to play Elm Tree leveled the tie when a shot from a tight angle found its way into the back of the net.
Albion will be disappointed not to hold on for the win but will be encouraged by the performance of the players especially the new players who all played a great part and made a good case for inclusion in the starting eleven when the season kicks off in a few weeks.
Next up for Albion is the first game in a four team tournament on Tuesday night in the Regional Park Ballincollig.
