Albion 1 – 6 Crescent

An understrength De Courcey Albion 11 were beaten 6-1 yesterday in the 2nd Round of the Corinthians Cup by an average Crescent Athletic. The scoreline definately doesnt do the Albion lads justice as they had the majority of the posession and overall better play. 2 soft goals within 15 minutes gave them a huge hill to climb until Noel Twomey finished off a great move in style by throwing himself into a 50/50 with the Crescent keeper. Albion pressed in the last 20 of the 1st half to get themselves back into the game. Noel Twomey was blatently taken down well inside the area to which the referee gave a free kick on the edge of the box along with the crescent making good stops from Ronan O’Driscoll & Martin Ryan. 2-1 at half time.

The 2nd half tells a different story. Albion started strong  for the 1st 15 mins until Crescents right winger finished a lovely move to make it 3-1. Another 2 clear penalty claims from Albion went over the ref as it wasn’t to be their day. Martin Ryan thought he had scored on 60 mins when Ronan O’Driscoll laid off a perfect headed pass until the Crescent keeper made a great save to keep them out. From there on 3 sloppy mistakes cost Albion as they suffered their heaviest defeat of the season. They will welcome back Ger O’Connell, Jason O’Riordan, top scorer John Duggan, Michael Walsh, Conor Hurley, JP Hayes & Gearoid Coholan for the UCC game on wednesday, all of whom were missing for the game with Crescent.
