De Courcey Albion 3-2 Carrigtwohill

Albion topple league toppers.

De Courcey Albion went into this game looking at a top versus bottom clash. Hoping to stop the run of mostly unlucky defeats, they started the game with an attacking mentality. But unluckily within 10 minutes were 1-0 down after an own goal. Not willing to put the heads down they battled on. Seamus O’Callaghan & Jason O’Riordan took control of midfield with some great passing at times feeding both wingers and lone striker John Duggan.

Albion piled the pressure on and it was inevitable when on 30 mins John Duggan struck home his first leage goal from play with an excellently taken left footed strike from 25 yards. From there Albion looked to be the only team pushing for another goal. And on 35 Albion took their chance wihen a scrappy attempt at a clearance from Carrigtwohill ended up with Michael Walsh tipping the ball over the line. 2-1 at Half Time.

From the start of the 2nd half Carrigtwohill took charge piling the pressure on the Albion defence. Though coping well the defence was caught on the counter attack and Carrigtwohill drew level on 60. The game was going either way until 5 minutes from time the ball dropped outside the Carrig area, from a run within his own half, Ger O’Connell blasted an inch perfect shot into the bottom left making it 3-2. Shane Moloney had the chance to wrap the game up in injury time but a bad bobble prevented the opportunity.

A fine performance from Albion who have finally shown that they can compete with the top teams in this division.
