Season Finish

De Courcey Albion, though finishing the season on a low point losing 4-1, can look back on the season with their heads held high. Favourites for relegation at the start of the season in their first year up, they finished fifth in the league. 1 point from a 3rd place finish and 2 wins from a promotion playoff.

Tim Harrington stole the show all season long. A massive 31 goals saw him overtake his brother Fran as the top scorer in 1 season. John Duggan, who has gotten used to the golden boot every season, played only 7 games this season but still managed to net 9 goals, 4 of which he scored against Rylane. Martin El-sahen in his first season with Albion netted 6 whil JP Hayes got his name on the scoresheet 4 times from the wing.

All of the new signings impressed this season as Rob O’Donovan, Ben Dillon, Tim Harrington, Martin El-sahen, Jack Crosbie, Elliot Thomson & Fran Harrington all contributed to Albions fine league & cup form throughout the season. Deccy Murray & Colm O’Donovan enjoyed a solid season at centre half, Jody Mac had his finest season in the red & white as did James O’Driscoll – player of the season. Ger O’Connell proved why he is called “Block” at right full and Mike Walsh was intsrumental when present between the sticks. Conan Dillon was solid as usual in midfield and up front towards the end of the season. A huge list of injury casualties may have cost them a place in Division 1 though they will take this season as another year of experience as they hope to build on it during the summer. With the likes of Rob Daly & Ben Dillon looking to recover from long term injuries & be ready for pre-season in July, along with the return of Conor Hurley, Albion will also be hoping as always to add to their current squad. John Hipwell will have to sit out most of next season while he recovers from his knee injury, Hipwell would have no doubt been there or there abouts as player of the season had he not been injured.

Pre-season training begins mid-july. If you are interested in playing Junior Soccer for De Courcey Albion for the 2012/2013 season, please contact Martin on 087-2719425 or email decourceyalbion@gmail.com.

Casement 2-0 Albion

Albion suffered their 4th straight league defeat though will be pissed they left without a point. Albion dominated the first half with chance after chance. JP Hayes & Rob O’Donovan were used well by Midfielders Conan and James. Tim Harrington struck the post with a raster of a shot in the opening minutes and on another night could have been on a hat trick at half time. Supporting striker Ben Dillon also had a few chances to make it 1-0. Casement scored against the run of play after a free kick was punched by Walshy and out back in where it found a free man who headed it home. 1-0 half time.

Albion started the second half well with another couple of chances falling to timmy. Casement went 2-0 up against the run of play with what looked to be a clear offside goal. Albion seemed to run out of steam in the last 10 mins and the whistle went to see Albion go home with nothing.

Team. Walshy, Ger, Jody, Deccy, Colm, Rob(Martin R), Japs, James, Conan, Tim, Ben(Jason).

Subs. Jack, Darren.

Macroom B 4-2 Albion

Albions woeful week continued with a 4-2 defeat away to macroom b and threw the led away twice. Albion had a different looking starting 11 as Colm O’Donovan, JP Hayes, martin El sahen, Martin Ryan, John Hipwell, Jason O’Riordan and John Duggan all missed the game through either injury or other commitments. I have no report as I was missing myself but Albion now face the task of an away game to champions elect Casement this Thursday evening.

On a good note, Tim Harrington got his 28th of the season which is a new club record.

Team. Walsh, McNamara, O’Driscoll, O’Connell, Murray, O’Donovan, Daly, Crosbie, B Dillon, C Dillon, Harrington.

Subs. N Twomey.

Albion 2-4 Ballinhassig

I had typed a massive report and it just deleted so heres the story of the game:

Ballinhassig went 1 up after 20 mins through Ray Kearney who had a free header at the back post, ball crossed the line though James O’Driscoll whacked to clear but eventually went in off Martin Ryans leg. 5 mins later Tim Harrington got his 27th of the season(record equalling tally for 1 season for Albion) after Martin Ryan won the ball & split the defence with the assist to leave Harrington make it 1-1. Julius Dranginis made it 2-1 to Hassig moments later when he was left free to slot past from a long throw in. 2-1 half time. 2nd half Hassig made it 3-1 through Dranginis (though 4 yards offside, easily!!). Dec Murray pulled one back for Albion after James O’Driscoll assisted him. El-sahen & Hayes had to be taken off injured for Albion. Albion had 5/6 corners in last 10 mins but caught on the break when Joe Desmond made it 4-2. Bad night for Albion!

Team: Walsh, Ryan, McNamara, O’Donovan, Murray, Hayes(R O’Donovan), O’Driscoll, B Dillon, C Dillon, El-sahen(J Crosbie), T Harrington.

Subs: Twomey, Daly, O’Connell.

Albion 0-3 Casement Celtic

De courcey Albion today fell to a home 3-0 defeat against a strong Casement Celtic side who dominated a frustrating game on a very bobbly surface at Dunderrow. Albion started well with Tim aharrington and Marrin Ryan both getting shots on target though nothing to trouble the keeper. Albions best chance fell to Harrington who forced the Celtic keeper into a fumble but he could only scurry the ball over the net. Casement took the lead slightly against the run of play when they took a long throw in which fond the head of their striker to make it 1-0 at half time.

Casement dominated the second half everywhere though tim Harrington, martin el sahen and Robert o Donovan were all very unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. Albion seemed to hold the ball for too long giving the opposition time to close down and force mistakes. Casement were 2-0 up after a free kick found the head of their striker who nabbed his 2nd. He had his hat trick 5 mins later when Ger O Connell was judged to have fouled their winger in the box.

3-0 at full time though Albion will feel the shoreline doesn’t reflect the game.

Team. Walsh, Ryan, O Driscoll, O Connell, O Donovan, Hayes, Duggan, B Dillon, C Dillon, El Sahen(R O Donovan ’75), T Harrington.

Subs. J Crosbie, D Daly, D Murray, K O Neill.

Albion 5-2 Ard Na Laoi

De Courcey Albion secured a 5-2 victory over Ard na Laoi today at Eli Lilly just a week after losing 1-0 to the same team. Ard na Laoi enjoyed the share of possession in the first half though Fran Harrington and JP Hayes were giving their full backs a terrible time on the wings. Ard na Laoi could do little about Albions opening goal as Tim Harrington scored a cracking goal from a free kick which looked to be out of range on the wide left, but the ball ended up in the top corner. He was close to adding a second as he watched a glancing shot clip the bar. 2 minutes later Ard na Laoi were back in the game with a thunderous shot which michael Walsh could do nothing about. Half time 1-1.

Albion stepped up a few gears in the second half and were soon back in front when Fran Harrington scored directly from a corner kick. It’s his first goal for Albion since re joining after Christmas. 2 minutes later tim Harrington burst through on goal, his shot was saved and parried straight to the feet of Martin El Sahen who made it 3-1 into an open goal. Albion were dominating at this stage and Ben Dillon was on hand, for what could be as a contender for goal of the season, with a fantastic shot from 25yards that went straight into the top corner of the net to make it 4-1. Tim Harrington scored his 26th of the season with an assist from brother Fran from a corner, tim rose over the centre half and headed a lovely goal to make it 5-1. Ard na Laoi pressed to find something towards the end but didn’t trouble the keeper too much though they did get a 2nd when Colm O’Donovan found his own net unfortunately. A great result from a lively looking Albion team who pick up another 3pts.

Team. M Walsh, G O’Connell, J McNamara, D Murray, C O’Donovan, JP Hayes, F Harrington(K O’Neill ’75), M Ryan (J Crosbie ’50), B Dillon, M El-Sahen (D Daly ’70), T Harrington.

Pall subs used.

Ard na Laoi 1-0 Albion

Albion suffered a setback in the league with a 1-0 away defeat to Ard na Laoi. In a lacklustre game, ard na Laoi created few chances with just 1 attempt on target. Albion had 6 shots on target but nothing to trouble the keeper. Ard na Laoi had the share of the possession in the first half but rarely threatened with Albions defence showing another good performance.

The second half was dominated by Albion though with a quick ard na Laoi break the winger found himself free to cross the ball in. Martin Ryan who was playing in goal went to meet the ball but the striker got there first. The rest of the game was played out with few chances in a poor game which leaves Ard na Laoi just 2points behind Albion in division 2.

Team. M Ryan, G O’Connell, J McNamara, D Murray, C O’Donovan, JP Hayes, B Dillon, J O’Driscoll, C Dillon, J Duggan, T Harrington.

Subs. R O’Donovan(’70), M El-Sahen, D Daly, J Crosbie.
