Cork Road Celtic 0-2 ALBION

De Courcey Albion pulled out one of the performances of the season to gun down promotion hopefuls Cork Road Celtic in Fermoy in the last eague game of the season. Cork Road started with a strong wind behind them and had Michael Walsh pulling out all the stops with some fine saves. Cork Road took a corner which they won in the air, Walsh dived to his right and pushed the ball off the crossbar and down. Albion cleared to breath a sigh of relief. Cork Roads dominance continued as they had 1 on 1’s all of which Walsh was up to the task. John Duggan & Noel Twomey were unlucky not to have scored also with 1 on 1’s. 0-0 at half time.

Albion upped the effort 120% in the 2nd half and looked like the hungrier side from the start. Duggan came close as did John Hipwell. JP Hayes came closest as he held off a defender and shot on goal which the keeper saved. Duggan then rattled the cross bar with a fantastic dipping shot. With 20 minutes gone in the half JP Hayes swung in a cross from open play which found John Hipwells head, he directed it perfectly to put Albion 1-0 to the good, Hipwell carried on his knack for scoring cracking goals with this one. Cork Road attacked aot more knowing what at stake but the back 4 of Colum Walsh, Colm O’Donovan, Declan Murray & Conor Hurley held strong as did Jody MacNamara when he came on. With 2 minutes left Noel Twomey found himself bearing down on goal with no Goalkeeper and just a defender to beat, the defender was shown a straight red after saving the shot with his hand and to gift Albion a penalty. Up stepped Duggan through the keeper made a good save. Noel Twomey was straight onto it and made it 2-0 to see out the game.

Leeside won the league with a 2-0 win over Parkview, Albion will be hoping now for St. John Boscos to draw either one of their last two games against Greenwood and Carrigtwohill to have any chance of promotion.
