Albion 3 – 4 Innishvilla

De Courcey Albion were on the brink of an upset in the County Cup yesterday against local rivals Innishvilla. Albion started off the stronger of the two teams with some neat work in midfield from Declan Murray & David Butler. JP Hayes & Gearoid Coholan were causing trouble for the full backs from Innishvilla and on 20 mins after a lovely pass by Michael Walsh, Coholan put albion 1-0 up with a lovely finish just outside the six yard box. 10 minutes later Albion were in dreamland when Jason O’Riordan ran from inside his own half and played a perfect ball through 2 defenders to reach Martin Ryan who made it 2-0 to the home team. Half time 2-0.

The opening 10 minutes of the 2nd half proved costly for Albion as they let the lead slip & eventually found themselves 3-2 down after a lapse in concentration. Innishvilla stayed on top defending well for the rest of the half until with 5 minutes left Albion scored from a free kick leaving the tie levelled at 3-3. Into injury time Innishvilla were awarded a free kick from which they converted winning by 1 goal. A fine performance from Albion but they will be kicking themselves after leaving go of a well deserved lead.
